Morocco

I had to dig out pictures from our two trips to Morocco, in 1999 and 2003 for a job. Below are just a tiny few. Morocco burns brightly in the imagination years after having been there. Somehow, the design culture there is strong: traditional mud-brick kasbahs still stand proud against the intense blue Atlas sky, the Riad (a house with an open inner courtyard) is still the best way to build a house, the perfection of Yves Saint-Laurent's Jardin Majorelle in Marrakech. Oh and the mint tea is the bestest.

Hi Jeremy. I'm going on holiday to Marrakech in a couple of weeks so thanks for this. I'm a female, travelling alone and from the research i've done, the general consesus re: the appropriate garb for female tourists seems to be that 'reasonably conservative', whatever that means. Do you actually have any tips on the appropriate dress for a female tourist travelling in Morroco? Thanks..

Hi UCS. Yes - don't show ANY leg or too much arm I would say. Make sure you soak up Djema el Fna in Marrakech - full of acrobats, snake charmers and storytellers by day, chock full of restaurants by night. And make sure you go for plenty of hammams - quite an experience in Morocco!

Ok, so it's trousers and short sleeved tops all round! Thanks. And I intend to have as much fun as possible. Can't wait....
