RIP Mary Danladi

I read this in the paper yesterday and haven't been able to stop thinking about it since. Sex worker Mary Danladi had her throat cut over a N500 dispute between her and a customer in Abuja - then the killer tries to bribe the police to stay quiet. The story is sure to be quickly forgotten (already it is yesterday's news). Somewhere, a family must be starting the process of coming to terms with the immensity of grief. Everywhere and all the time, women are violated by men and the world loses its humanity, once again. May she rest in peace.

certainly this is a tragedy, but don't compound it by continuing to paint men as always the abusers and women always the victims. don't politicize her death.

Too bad. RIP, poor Mary. I'd be interested to know what fate awaits the murderous mallam. I hope he'll receive fitting punishment for his crime and not go scot free because of misplaced morality judgements about the deceased.
Keep us posted, Baba J!

@anonymous 1: why, because she was a sex worker, we should not talk about her MURDER!!!!

I hate to sound like I do not care, because I do, but the way she died goes with the territory.

When you live by the sword, thats how you go too.
We all will die sometime, her job determined the mode. Oh well!

pretty brown girl and 2nd anon your statements are just warped. because of the kind of work she was engaged in, she doesn't deserve justice? everyone dserves justice and dignity no matter the kind of work they are or were engaged in.

______

her murder should be talked about, but not politicized and pigeonholed into "violence against women" or what have you. If this man was a homosexual, he would very likely have killed his male lover the same way. would Jeremy then call it an example of violence against men? Or it would just be a murder, like this one is

Ms. May 1:55 pm

May her soul rest in peace, and may justice prevail.

BTW where did it state she was a sex worker ? That is what the murdered called but that does not mean its true!

Thanks for 'engraving' her name in the blogsphere. Naming her. So that those who are minded not to forget, will not.

Jeremy quoted

"Sex worker Mary Danladi had her throat cut over a N500 dispute between her and a customer in Abuja - then the killer tries to bribe the police to stay quiet."

Anonymous, the truth sometimes sounds a little harsh but it has to be said. We bring home caskets of our military everyday who are dying in Iraq- yes, it is awful but it is one of the MAIN hazzards of being a soldier in the US army.

Ms. Danladi sold sex! People who buy sex are generally not of the highest caliber when it comes to morality. She was a casualty of her trade and her death was not a surprise and should not be.

At least now, she knows peace at last.
