Pentangling

Last night my folks and I went to Brum to see Pentangle, a jazz-folk group who were around in the late 1960s early 1970s. They are the sounds of my early childhood. Mom did the ironing to them.

The set was tight, the music sublime. the great Danny Thompson on double bass brought in a Mingus-esque jazziness, whereas Bert Jansch and John Renbourn's guitars have a more folky feel. Jacqui McShee's voice was as whispy clear as it was over 30 years ago. Pentangle mix jazz-folk with old English folks songs. After all this time, the music remains exquisite. I fell deep inside my childhood listening again. Click on Light Flight on their myspace page linked above to hear their most famous track. Gorgeous stuff.
