Watching the Gulf oil spill on CNN got me thinking about the Niger Delta during the week. Then I looked up how much oil has been spilled and I was stunned to learn that there were 2405 officially recorded spills since 2006. Over 2000 spills in the span on 3 years???!!! And these are the ‘official figures’!

I'm not an environmentalist by any standards but that environment has been poisoned and is destroyed. Who knows how much oil has really spilled (and is still been spilled) in the Niger Delta...? So many livelihoods have been destroyed. Nobody cares, Nobody listens.

Seeing how the Americans are responding to this ONE Gulf spill says one thing in many ways: Nigeria has a long long way still to go

But why can't a Nigerian president hold the oil companies responsible? that is the real issue.
